ABOUT

The Hoot Hoot Way
The Hoot Hoot Way was created to help children learn about care, belonging, safety, and kindness in joyful, meaningful ways. Through beautifully illustrated stories, thoughtful lessons, and playful classroom resources, we aim to nurture connection, confidence, and compassion, the heart of every child’s wellbeing.
At its core, The Hoot Hoot Way is about giving children a voice, helping them understand their rights, their feelings, and the importance of speaking up, listening, and caring for themselves and others.
Our Story
The Hoot Hoot Way was founded by Rebecca Marshall and Janine Appleby, two sisters who share a deep passion for children’s wellbeing, education, and creativity.
Rebecca Marshall is an artist, author, and designer based in Melbourne. With years of experience in storytelling and visual design, Rebecca brings imagination, warmth, and colour to The Hoot Hoot Way. Her playful characters, including Miss Owl, Benny the Budgie, and Ralph the Dachshund, help children explore big ideas in gentle, memorable ways.
Janine Appleby has over twenty years of experience in early childhood education. Her knowledge of children’s development, safety, and emotional learning helps ensure every story and lesson in The Hoot Hoot Way aligns with the needs of educators and the rights of children. Janine’s compassionate approach brings real-world understanding to each resource, helping educators create safe, nurturing environments for every child.
Together, Rebecca and Janine combine art, story, and education to make learning about wellbeing and safety something children love.
Our Mission
To make every child feel seen, safe, and supported through creativity, kindness, and connection.
