A Big Hooty Hello my dear friends,
Hi, it’s Miss Honey & Miss Rosie Owl!
We are writing to you from a lovely place called Laanecoorie, it’s a reservoir of water surrounded by trees and close to a river. This special place is on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people, and we feel very thankful to be visiting here.
The lake has soft sandy beaches, calm water, and lots of shade, making it a perfect spot to splash, rest, and enjoy nature.
Today was the first day of our summer holiday, and we are so excited. We love sitting by the water and watching our family and friends have fun in the sunshine. The little ones laugh and splash as they play, and we watch them carefully because staying safe near water is very important.
At lunch time our country friends arrived. Miss Galah brought yummy seed cake to share, and Miss Pelican glided across the water with tasty fish cakes.
Miss Pelican helped everyone learn how to notice the different water conditions, and Miss Galah organised fun games on the shore where we all stayed close together. We ate, laughed, and enjoyed the beautiful summer day.
As the sun began to go down, we packed up our things, already excited for the next adventure.
This is only the beginning of our summer holiday, and we can’t wait to share more stories with you.
Until we write again,
Stay curious, have fun and be kind.
With a happy hoot,
💛 Miss Honey & Miss Rosie Owl

The first holiday letter from Miss Honey and Miss Rosie Owl introduces children to the joy of exploring nature while learning about safety and care. Through the story, children are reminded that water play is fun but requires close adult supervision, and that staying together, watching carefully, and listening to trusted adults helps keep everyone safe near lakes and reservoirs.
The letter also models sharing, cooperation, and community, as friends arrive with food and help organise safe activities. We invite you to continue these conversations at home or kinder/school by talking with children about water safety, kindness, and how we look after one another when enjoying outdoor adventures.
